The former National Youth Organizer for the opposition Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh also known as Kabila has lashed out at the Mills-led administration for "defrauding" the state.
According to him, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed to honour its promise of mobilizing GH¢400 million seed money for the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) but deemed it fit to pay a whooping sum of GH¢42 million to its financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
Kabila stated that SADA, established in 2009 by NDC to help reduce unemployment and poverty levels of the three northern regions was a sham and a ploy to obtain the needed votes in the ruling party’s quest for power in 2008.
The CPP youth activist's outcry comes on the heel of a controversial GH¢42 million judgement debt awarded to Mr. Woyome over what he describes as an illegal abrogation of his contract by the erstwhile Kufuor administration after winning a contract to renovate two stadia in the country, and the construction of an additional two.
But further probe has proven that the judgement was given in default of a defence by the Attorney General’s Department. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused officials of the AG’s Department of deliberately refusing to defend the state to enable Mr. Woyome win the case.
Alfred Woyome is reported to be the bankroller of the NDC who also contributed immensely to the Mills campaign prior to the 2008 general elections.
He is also said to have funded some officials of the ruling party to witness the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and also contributed generously at a recent fund-raising ceremony for the party.
However, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, James Kwabena Bomfe could not fathom why Attorney General’s Department would rather opt for a consent judgement rather than filing for a stay of execution.
He noted that no serious government would pay such a huge sum of money to an individual without recourse to further checks.
Kabila said he would be surprised if President John Evans Atta Mills has no knowledge of the deal because as President “he should be aware of all the financial transactions in the country”.
“Nobody at the Ministry of Finance or any Ministry in Ghana would pay anybody judgement debts to the tune of GH¢42 million without the president’s knowledge. it won’t happen” he added.
The aspiring CPP parliamentary candidate for Kintampo North questioned the motive behind the AG’s decision to pay the full amount of the debt to Mr. Woyome when in fact the court had ordered them to pay part.
Kabila also raised concerns about the capacity in which Alfred Woyome sued government when in fact he (Woyome) had no contract with the government.
“If you are dealing with government in the name of your company, you cannot go to court in any different manner other than the same manner in which you entered the contract”.
Kabila maintained that the Mills-led administration owe the people of Northern Ghana an unqualified apology for the deceit of what he describes as the mirage of SADA.
