The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will, on Tuesday morning, hold a press conference at the Parliament house on the controversial judgment debt of 42 million cedis paid to NDC’s Alfred Woyome.
The payment is in respect of the abrogation of a contract for the construction of stadiums for the African Cup of Nations in 2008.
There is an on-going debate over the payment which was ordered by an Accra High Court following the Attorney General’s refusal to enter a defense.
The NPP however believes government could have saved the nation that money and that the whole process smells fishy.
Nana Akomea, the party's Director of Communication told Joy News his party does not understand why the Attorney general failed to file a defense.
“How does the Attorney General say that they have no defense against a suit of the magnitude of 105 million Ghana cedis or over one trillion old cedis?”
He said the circumstances within which these moneys were paid to Woyome were strange “and we are talking about these moneys being paid to somebody who contributed reportedly $ 5 million so NDC supporters can go to South Africa to watch football.”
