A member of the National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party and a former member of the Council of State, Alhaji Alhassan bin Salih has expressed worry over the lobbying tactics for the Vice Presidential candidate slot for the party.
Bin Salih in an interview with Joy News’ Upper West correspondent, Rafiq Salam said the tactics being adopted by certain persons in the party could only derail the flagbearer’s effort in finding a competent candidate to partner him in the 2012 elections.
He argued further that religion or ethnicity has never been a factor for the NPP in choosing a vice presidential candidate for the party.
He said competence must be the paramount objective for choosing a vice presidential candidate.
“We the northerners we were very wise because it was not made of radicals. They were matured people. So we refused to introduce religion into our request. All that we said was that a capable Northerner must be chosen to partner a running mate. No religious or tribal qualifications were set,” he argued.
He pointed out there will be chaos if such a proposition is made.
He has therefore urged party members to let wisdom prevail rather than radicalism.
Bin Salih would not conjecture who is favorite for the vice –presidential slot of the NPP.
