The leadership of the Convention People’s Party has accepted “in good faith” the resignation of its immediate past flagbearer.Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom announced his resignation from the party, hinting of the formation of a new party that will evolve from a political movement.That movement, he believed will be a palpable alternative to the two major parties in Ghana- the ruling National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.He is expected to lead that party in the 2012 general elections.A statement signed by the chairman of the CPP Samia Nkrumah with a headline “ CPP moves on” said: “The Leadership of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) acknowledges and accepts in good faith the public declaration by the immediate past flag bearer of the Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom to part ways with the CPP and to form his own political party.”She said the party recognises the right of individuals to freedom of association but reminded Dr. Nduom and its teeming supporters defecting from the CPP to formally inform the party of their decision to part ways.The statement said the CPP does not allow for divided attention and demands undoubted loyalty from its members.“Leadership hereby calls on all members to stand firm and let us all seize this opportunity to re-claim our identity, remove all doubts about our resolve to bring unity and cohesion to our Party and the Nkrumaist tradition.“Let us mobilize with a sense of urgency and work towards reclaiming our rightful place in Ghanaian politics in 2012 and beyond for the benefit of our people,” the statement said.
