Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has called on the Electoral Commission, all political parties and Ghanaian electorate to take up the responsibility in ensuring a successful 2012 as the country goes to the polls.In an interview with Joy News, the former President made it clear that the responsibility of a successful election should not be left to government alone.“It is my prayer and expectation that the Electoral Commission will conduct its affairs with the national interest, utmost and central, and would also come across as truly being a partial referee through the process.“I would expect also that the parties would play by the rules – would show responsibility, conduct their campaigns and debate in a very orderly fashion.”In a related development, the Peoples’ National Convention flag-bearer in the 2008 elections Dr. Edward Mahama has called on Ghanaians to eschew violence.In a New Year message, Dr. Mahama says dialogue rather than violence should be the instrument to resolving disputes.“We have a future that is very bright for Ghana, and if we continue to maintain this stability and change our leaders through the ballots and not allow violence to come to this country, Ghana would be the envy of all of Africa and the world in the next twenty years.Convention Peoples Party’s General Secretary Ivor Greenstreet also took turn to wish Ghanaians well.Play the attached audio to listen to excerpts of the interviews
