Mr. Matthew Akayigre Adombire, a Chief Operations Officer of the Ghana Water Company Limited, on Monday officially launched his campaign to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Bolgatanga Constituency. Addressing some delegates at the Gambibgo electoral area, Mr. Adombire noted that the infrastructural and social state of the constituency was unacceptable and said infrastructural development of the people in the constituency was one of his priority areas. “The constituency needs a fair share of the government’s budgetary allocation for the development of the regional capital, upgrading our educational systems, reducing poverty and improving the health care delivery and standards of the people” he added. He indicated that he had enjoyed the support of the chiefs and people in the electoral area, adding, the chiefs were dissatisfied with the performance of the incumbent MP and therefore needed change of which he represented. Mr Adombire stressed that he intends to reach out to the people at the grassroots and seek cooperation between losing parties so they could collectively develop the constituency for a better Ghana. “There is no need for antagonism and separation; we need as a people to be united to move the constituency forward,” he said. He called for peace through out the country during and after the primaries and subsequently the general election in December, adding free and fair elections devoid of acrimony, intimidation and use of vulgar utterances is what a country like Ghana deserves. “When electorates are allowed to make their own choices, then good leadership would be seen to be operating in a democracy such as ours”, he observed. Mr. Akabare Abentara, a delegate and the Ward chairman of the Gambibgo Electoral Area expressed worry about the numerous unfulfilled promises made by politicians, adding that the people in the area had lost confidence in them. He was however quick to mention that, since Mr. Adombire was a new candidate and had good policies that would benefit them, they were ready to give him the necessary support in his bid to contest the parliamentary primaries and the parliamentary elections thereafter.
