The New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South, Ursula Owusu, has accused government of gradually destroying essential sectors of the economy that cater for the basic needs of the people.These sectors, according to her, include education, housing and health.Ms Owusu, who was contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Thursday, stated that she has reason to believe the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no desire to better the lots of Ghanaians.She was reacting to reports from the Ashanti region indicating the ongoing pilot Capitation exercise under the National Health Insurance Scheme has been saddled with problems.Reports say patients were being turned away at health facilities because they are to access outpatient services at one facility to avoid abuse of the pilot project.Obviously unhappy about the situation, Ursula bemoaned the handling of the project and questioned why it was held in the Ashanti region which she said has a large population.She asked whether government was planning to impose hardships on Ashantis, making reference to an alleged confession of President Mills in Wikileaks that he feared the ‘Great Ashanti Project’.Health, education and shelter are the basic needs of mankind and I think that is what the NDC government wants to destroy so Ghanaians will be unhappy, she claimed.Ms Owusu said the NDC destroys everything because the party has been cursed.However, a member of the NDC communication team, Gabby Asumin regretted that Ursula had opted to politicised the issue, maintaining that government was only interested in enhancing the health insurance system by pre-financing it.
