A Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kwasi Amakye Boateng has denied ever being a member of the New Patriotic Party.
Even though he admitted making a public declaration on May 1, 2001 that he was resigning from the NDC to join the NPP, he did not follow through with his declaration.
Kwasi Amakye has for years acted as a political analyst who many media houses rely on for objective interpretation of political issues in the country.
But his recent comment that he will be surprised if Ghanaians voted for President Mills in the 2012 General elections has angered NDC functionaries who have sworn to expose him.
Felix Kwakye-Ofosu who is a member of the NDC communications team in an interview said Kwasi Amakye is coloured and cannot therefore be said to be an objective analyst.
“The problem is not with him expressing his view,” he said, "but when you introduce him as a political analyst, presumably, you are speaking to him because you believe him as a neutral arbiter in our politics and so the views he is expressing are views that reflect that kind of neutrality and objectivity. But we have a difficulty with that kind of posturing because we do know that as far back as 2000, Mr Kwasi Amakye Boateng was the Parliamentary candidate of the NDC in the Affiduase Asokore constituency. He had officially resigned from the NDC and joined the NPP."
He said nobody heard him officially resign from the NPP and is therefore safe to say he is still a member of the party.
He also claimed Amakye played a major role in Alan Kyeremanten’s failed bid to become the NPP flagbearer and therefore cannot be said to be an objective analyst of political issue.
But the political science lecturer has denied the claims.
He told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh he has never been associated with the Alan Kyeremanten’s political activities, “never once,” he added.
Whilst he admitted saying he had resigned from the NDC to join the NPP, he said, subsequent developments made it impossible for him to join the NPP.
He said he never went for a membership card from the NPP and cannot therefore be captured in any official documents of the party.
He stated his comments on political issues are based chiefly on his knowledge and appreciation of political issues and not his political affiliation.
He repeated his comment that he will be surprised if Mills is voted for in the 2012 elections but said he is not sure if the NPP’s Nana Addo -a candidate he said he had problems with- could be the beneficiary, of those votes.
