Constituency Executive of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Adenta have justified their decision not to vet the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the parties parliamentary primaries.Kojo Adu Asare announced his decision to contest the January 21 primaries only a few weeks after declaring his intention not to run for a second term.But constituency executives say he failed to meet the deadline for submission of nomination forms.NDC Chairman for the Adenta Constituency, Alhaji Zakaria Abdullah, told Joy News the executives have done nothing wrong.He said Mr Adu Asare failed to return his nomination forms so “we vetted those who brought their forms and we submitted them to the region and his forms are not at the region as well so he was not called.”Alhaji Zakaria also rejected claims that the MP is being victimized.The Chairman said the Adenta MP, having decided not to run again but changed his mind a few weeks later, appears to be confused and may “confuse the constituency as well.”Alhaji Zakaria said having written a letter to the constituency executive declaring his intention not to seek re-election, Mr Adu Asare ought to have written again to revoke his earlier letter before picking up nomination forms.He believes the MP must take his chance at his own conduct.But Mr. Adu Asare says he is still in the race. According to him, the national office of the party has accepted his nomination papers which were rejected by the constituency executive.He claims the constituency chairman is on a mission to victimize him.The MP said the constituency chairman, whom he beat to a third place in the last parliamentary primaries, was still bitter about that loss and was using his position to scuttle his second term bid.
