President John Evans Atta Mills says he has forgiven the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu for several insults he has suffered in his hands, while asking his functionaries to “watch their language.” He was answering questions from senior journalists and editors at the third edition of the encounter with the media at the Castle, Accra. The President answered a myriad of questions including the controversial ¢58 million judgment debt paid to a financier of the NDC, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, the botched STX housing project and the removal of subsidy on fuel prices. A journalist expressed concern over what he called the barrage of insults the president had suffered in the hands of the Minority Leader in his three years and sought the president’s reaction to them. President Mills agreed to have been a victim of insults from the Minority Leader, saying, “I have forgiven him.” He noted that people can disagree as sharply as possible with their opponents but must use decent language at all times. He cited instances as a practicing lawyer where he had to walk to his opponent to congratulate him on the language he had used in arguing out his case. President Mills also cautioned his functionaries to measure their language. On the removal of subsidy on fuel prices the president said that was one of the painful decisions he had to take, knowing too well its ramifications on the ordinary Ghanaian. But he explained that with the quantum of money that went into subsidy alone, government had no choice but to take that decision. On the controversial Woyome saga, the President among other things said he was not privy to all the facts and believed the Economic and Organised Crime Office - a body he has absolute confidence in - will conduct a thorough investigation and present the facts after which a decision can be taken.
