A constitutional Lawyer and a Political Scientist Lawyer Osei Kwadwo is suspecting former Minister of Education, Youth and Sports under erstwhile Kufour-led NPP administration Yaw Osafo Maafo’s decision not to honour an invitation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), as a clear indication that he has something to hide.
Mr. Osei Kwadwo expressed worry over the posture of the former minister, questioning the reason for that action if he had nothing to hide.
Lawyers of the embattled former minister who is also immediate past MP for Akyem Oda, on Tuesday filed for an injunction at the High Court to restrain their client from appearing before EOCO to answer some questions pertaining to the “Woyome saga”, as directed by the President.
Osafo Maafo’s lawyers claimed EOCO, which operates directly under the the Justice and Attorney General’s DepartmeNt, had no locus to investigate into the issue hence their decision to restrain their client from appearing before it.
Speaking on Adom News on Wednesday, the constitutional Lawyer advised EOCO to consider subpoenaing those who failed to appear before them because the Office has what it takes to do so contrary to what some people believe.
He stated EOCO which is under the executive arm of government, is too powerful to allow itself to be intimidated.
Meanwhile, Lawyer Osei Kwadwo has warned of a repercussion if the Judiciary granted the request by lawyers of Osafo Maafo since it will set a dangerous precedent that may jeopardise the country’s constitution in future.
He further stated that Osafo Maafo’s request must not be granted because it has the potential of usurping the foundation of the constitution.
