The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho is sending a strong signal to all Ghanaians that President Mills will not hesitate to crack the whip where necessary and that “nobody takes the president for granted”.According to him, President Mills has the mandate of Ghanaians to take the affairs of the country and better the lives of the people so anyone who misbehaves towards him will not be tolerated.As announced, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice has been fired by the President due to misbehavior.A statement issued by the president and signed by the Chief of Staff, Henry Martey Newman on Thursday said “His Excellency President Mills has with immediate effect relieved Mr. Martin Amidu of his post as Attorney General and Minister of Justice”.“The decision is as a result of Mr. Martin Amidu’s misconduct at a meeting last Friday; January 13th 2012 presided over by His Excellency President J.E.A Mills. Mr. Amidu’s conduct is incompatible with acceptable standards expected of ministers and appointees of the President”.The statement thanked Mr. Amidu for his services rendered to the state as a member of his government.The A-G, in a press release described sections of the pro-government press as “a partisan and rented NDC press group who perceive that I am not performing the duties of my office in their partisan political interests.”Mr. Martin Amidu said “a colleague Minister of State, who perceived that my integrity and professionalism as a lawyer was a threat to the concealment of gargantuan crimes against the people of Ghana…” connived “to unleash the gullible section of the NDC press on me by the leakage of official documents from my ministry through the perverse section of a rented NDC press to the public beginning the 3rd of January 2012.”The statement angered sympathizers of the government who called for his head as a minister but their plea has now been actualized.Speaking on Asempa Fm’s Ekosii-Sen on Thursday, Koku Anyidoho noted that maybe Martin Amidu’s dismissal might be unfortunate but it is the decision of the president who has the mandate to hire and fire.“His dismissal may be unfortunate but the president is the President. None takes him for granted”.“Every appointment of the president must be respected by all. He has the mandate of Ghanaians to lead us for four years and his authority must be respected. The statement of the chief of staff remains supreme and I can't say much”.He asserted that the President is not weak as claimed by the opposition NPP but knows when to crack the whip. “They should be counting themselves lucky that theirs will be through the court or legal systems. The President can crack the whip on his appointees but for the NPP it will only be by the law court so they should be ready because nothing will go freely”.
