Executive Secretary of Ghana Integrity Initiative, Vitus Azeem, has backed calls to make it mandatory for the President to give detailed reasons for sacking a minister.
President Mills on Thursday dismissed Attorney General Martin Amidu for misconduct.
But the opposition NPP and the group, Generational Youth Movement which was first to petition CHRAJ over the Woyome saga insist the President must provide the specifics of what constitutes a misconduct.
The Ghana Integrity Initiative boss, Vitus Azeem, says this is necessary in the interest of transparency and to avoid abuse of discretionary power.
“…I think that as we progress in our democracy and as they have promised a transparent and accountable governance it is only proper and fair to Honourable Martin Amidu that they become a bit more specific…” he told Joynews in an interview.
But law lecturer Kofi Abotsi disagrees. He says making it mandatory for the President to explain his decision to sack his appointees will unnecessarily constrain him.
