For soccer loving Ghanaians, watching the AFCON comes with great pleasure, especially watching players showcase their talents, dazzling spectators with their skills.
But have you ever taken a minute to get into the minds of ladies who sit behind television sets to find out what they really watch on the field of play? Let’s take a minute to find out what women actually focus on when they say they are watching football.
TV3’s Nana Aba Anamoah and Sandra Esinam Afenu and Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay), executive producer of TV program Afia Schwarzenegger have been following the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations passionately.
For them, it’s not about the abounding talents on the field of play, neither is it about the beautiful leg work the players do.
For all three of them, it is an entirely different agenda.
The trio of “Crazy” broadcasters was on Friday’s edition of the JOY Sports Cup of Nations Diary.
Delay watches out for the “sweet” guys who she chooses to liken to food. She goes on to cite Guinean international Pascal Feindouno as one of her player “delicacies”.
“Feindouno does not really have what you will call striking beauty. He’s not breath-taking but trust me if this guy were food, woooow…I will not hesitate to munch him!”
“Especially when he is sweating in his jersey, I just go bunkers! He is simply delicious!”
She ends her submission on Pascal Feindouno saying “ooohh that guy, mamma mia!”
Nana Aba simply can’t take her eyes off Zambian Coach Herve Renard.
“Aww, that guy looks like he just stepped out of Hollywood! He is fine! Renard is good looking”.
“For the players, throw in Kolo and Yaya Toure, put in Kwarasey and spice it up with a name that will not settle well with a lot of people, but the guy is attractive”.
“I’m sure a lot of you will go like ‘boo’ when I mention Ivorian Tiote. He’s got a stern look and when he’s on the ball, he is damn sexy! He’s like Messi on the ball”.
“Tiote is not handsome, but he is sexy. Someone like Yaya Toure, he is handsome but not sexy. Tiote is ugly but sexy.”
Sandra cannot stand the looks of 2011 African player of the year, Yaya Toure.
“Anytime I see that guy, especially when he is after the ball, he looks like he is falling, yet standing. I just love his body”.
If any lady walks down the road with Yaya Toure, she definitely will be the luckiest lady on earth.”
Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah does it for all three ladies in terms of fineness, for the hairstyles, they all share the sentiment that skipper John Mensah could do better with his braids.
All three ladies admit they watch the games; however, they each focus on different sides of the game.
Delay will pick one player per game and focus her attention on him through the entire game, Nana Aba watches both the games and the fine boys and for Sandra, she looks out for the nicest guys, follows them, admires them and wished they were so close to protect her in times of trouble.
The ladies in unison agreed Andre Ayew is good looking but is too young to be a target for any matured woman.
“Andre is too young; a small boy who has a great future but must focus on his game”.
Andre Ayew is one of the stars of the ongoing tournament and has become a ladies’ man because of his performances at national team and club level at Marseille in the French first division league known as the French Ligue 1.
So guys, whenever you are out there with your woman watching soccer, be sure to find out what it is that they are really watching because you may not exist till the game is done!
