The High Court in Accra has dismissed as inconvenient and inappropriate, a suit filed by five aggrieved members of the People’s National Convention seeking to halt the party’s national delegates congress ongoing in Sunyani.
The congress will elect a flagbearer and national leaders for the party.
The five - regional chairmen of Ashanti, Central, Greater Accra, Western and Upper West regions challenged the authority of the national executives to organize the congress.
Ashanti regional Chairman, Thomas Akum-Yong who spoke for the group blamed the Council of Elders for what he described as the flagrant abuse of the party’s constitution.
He told Joy News they were seeking redress in court because the party ignored their demand not to go ahead with the congress.
But the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan dismissed the claims describing it as another desperate attempt to disrupt the party’s programmes.
The court said the timing of the suit, as close to the congress currently underway in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region, was most inconvenient. The court will give more detailed reasons on Monday. Visit our galleries to see photos from the congress.
