The National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan has refuted claims by NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong that the 4x4 Lexus vehicle he (Gyan) is currently using is a gift from beleaguered businessman Alfred Woyome,
According to Boateng Gyan, the 4x4 Lexus vehicle is not a personal one as the MP claims; rather, it is an official vehicle he is using as an executive of the party.
He said the vehicle was bought for him in 2009 and not in 2010 as is being speculated. He denied Mr. Woyome had a hand in the purchase of the vehicle.
Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan made this reaction when speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong had earlier alleged that top NDC functionaries, including Yaw Boateng Gyan, National Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei and General Secretary Asiedu Nketia have benefited from Alfred Woyome’s judgement debt scandal.
Mr. Alfred Woyome was arrested by the police last Friday and arraigned before an Accra High Court, charged with fraud. He has been denied bail and currently on police remand.
Woyome and three others, including a Chief State Attorney, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, his wife, Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh and Paul Asimenu, a Director at the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning have been charged with six counts including conspiracy to defraud and defrauding by false pretense.
Mr. Boateng Gyan said the 4X4 vehicle was bought for him in appreciation of his hard work and not because of any ill motive.
He asked a rhetorical question whether party executives of the NPP were using bicycles during their tenure of office, adding the NPP think only the good is enough for them.
