Ghana FA President Kwasi Nyantakyi has revealed how some players contributed to the Black Stars’ disappointing run at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Nyantakyi who also doubles as the chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee however fell short of mentioning names of the perpetrators. The GFA boss made the revelation during a Press Conference organized on Wednesday to enumerate some of the reasons for Ghana’s disappointing fourth-place finish at Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. “During the competition we observed that some players played to achieve personal fame, prominence and excellence to the detriment of the team,” Nyantakyi said. “When this came to our attention we called a meeting where the issue was discussed in the open. “We believe that during the course of the competition that discussion contributed in improving the situation but it did not totally eliminate it. “We also had complains of some of them of especially the senior players accusing some of the junior ones of disrespect. “These are things we believe on a continued basis we will be able to help the players out of these unfortunate character traits which affected the team adversely.” Ghana’s ambition of winning an African Cup after a staggering 30-year wait came crushing in the semi finals when eventual winners dished out a shocking 1-0 defeat to the Black Stars. Ghana went on to lose its third-place playoff to Mali – the same side the Black Stars had earlier beaten at the Group phase. The Ghana FA is thus in the process of taking a thorough post-mortem of the AFCON disappointment by studying reports presented from the technical and management teams before taking definite decisions.
