Ghana is scheduled to host West Africa’s first Tier IV data center to be jointly constructed by Etix Everywhere, Ngoya and Africa Investment Group (AIG).
The multi-tenant data center (MTDC) to be located in Accra, will be carrier and vendor-neutral, a statement copied Myjoyonline.com has said.
AIG Chief Executive Officer, Dr Samuel Ankrah has explained Etix Everywhere was chosen for the project because of its “proven design and technical know-how.”
The Tier certification issued by Uptime Institute guarantees customers a state of the art infrastructure and capacity. It also ensures the provision of a truly maximum level of availability.
Mr Ankrah summarized this when he said: “The Tier IV certification aims to ensure the quality of our infrastructure for our clients.”
Ngoya Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ross Macdonald said a provision has been made for a solar plant because of the “unpredictable nature of Africa power utilities.”
“The infrastructure will be able to support the data center at full capacity,” Macdonald said of the solar plant that will be built and operated by Etix Energy, a subsidiary of Etix Group.
The first phase of the project, based on the modular design developed by Etix Everywhere, will offer a capacity of 150 racks.
But more than half of the first phase has been booked, the partners have said.
The decision to build a second site in Ghana was because of the increasing demand for carrier-neutral collocation services.
The data center marks the next phase of Etix Everywhere’s expansion throughout Africa.
Etix Everywhere Managing Director, Antoine Boniface has said they are building a global network of “collocation data centers” that will enable customers to access the best “infrastructure wherever it is needed.”
“The boom in internet access on the African continent will lead to an increasing demand for carrier-neutral data centers,” he said.
The demand, he explained is the “reason why we are delivering a network of interconnected data centers providing a Pan African platform for the delivery of digital services.”
Etix Accra #1 will be the second data center of Etix Everywhere located in Africa after Etix Casablanca #1.
