Supporters of Asante Kotoko have threatened to pull out of Wednesday’s Premier League game with Berekum Chelsea if security concerns are not addressed.
The Premier League leaders travel to Sunyani to take on the defending champions amidst reports of attacks and intimidation of the Fabulous supporters.
Chelsea in the first leg complained of similar treatment in their 1-0 reverse at the Baba Yara Stadium where an official (Nana Oduro-Sarfo) was alleged to have been attacked.
Already there are signs of a possible retaliation and this the Kotoko supporters want sorted before the game on Wednesday.
“There have been instances of violent attacks on Kotoko Supporters, especially when we go to the Brong Ahafo Region and we cannot risk our lives this time round,” a press release by a group called United Callers Association (Kotoko Serial Callers-Ashanti) read.
“The United Callers of Asante Kotoko would want to state that, if maximum security is not provided for by the PLB and the GFA, our management should count us out of this match, meaning that we are not going with them.”
The club upon its own investigations support the claim and have asked for expedite action from authorities to ensure safety and security.
“I still think the place is volatile for an incident -free game,” Kotoko’s spokesperson Listowell Bukarson told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“We need overwhelming guarantee from the Management of Chelsea and the PLB latest Tuesday, else we will issue a statement calling on the supporters to boycott the game.
“A drop of blood of a single supporter of our great club is so dear to us for us to take a gamble in the name of football.”
