Ashanti Gold recorded their sixth straight win in six matches after beating Heart of Lions 2-0 in Kpando with top scorer contender Yakubu Mohammed scoring one of the goals to maintain the team’s 100 percent record in the second round of the Glo premier league.Ashanti Gold which struggled to in the bottom five in the first round of the league are surprise league title contenders as they trail Kotoko by 10 points with nine matches to end the season.Kotoko beat Dwarfs 2-0 at the Len clay stadium in Obuasi to stay top of the table with goals from Kofi Nti Boakye and Ben Acheampong. Fans of the league do not expect the Porcupine warriors to relinquish the lead this season as they are favoured to win a record 22 league titles.Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Maxwell Konadu in an interview with JOY Sports stated that, the race for the league title is not over but believes his club stands a chance of winning the title.“It is not yet over since we still have some matches to play”. Said Coach Konadu.“We are going to concentrate on winning the matches left and I believe we will be crowned as champions at the end of the season”.Hearts of Oak fell 12 points behind Kotoko and can count themselves out of the title race following a 1-0 defeat to Liberty Professionals which completed the double over the Phobians this season.Yesterday’s game at the Accra Sports stadium was ex Black Stars captain CK Akunnor’s first as Hearts Coach and he tells JOY Sports he has more to do to prove he can manage the team.“Fitness level was very poor and most of the players lack confidence but I will work on that to improve the situation”. He noted“We will work hard and get the results in our subsequent matches, I’m not afraid and I believe at the end we will all be happy”Meanwhile, Liberty Coach J E Sarpong who coached Hearts of Oak over a decade ago knows pressure will soon mount on Coach CK Akunnor and has urged the club to support the new manager.Mighty Jets poor run at home continued at the weekend as they lost 2-1 to SC Medeama at the Accra sports stadium.New Edubiase striker Emmanuel Baffour returned to scoring form as he helped his side gain a 1-0 win over WA All Stars at the Gyamfi Park.The striker now has 16 goals and leads the scorers’ charts by five more goals to Ashanti Gold striker Mohammed Yakubu who has 11 goals.Aduana Stars drew one all with Wassaman United at the Tarkwa T and A Park.
