Ghana's women's U-20 team improved their chances of reaching the world stage after beating South Africa 2-0 in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
The Black Princesses scored two second half goals through Florence Dadson and Elizabeth Addo on Saturday to gain the advantage ahead of the Basetsana with the return game in Accra in a fortnight's time.
Both sides ended the first half goalless but five minutes into the start of the game after the break, Dadson opened the scoring at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton.
Ghana doubled their lead from the spot when Addo scored a penalty kick after a Black Princesses attacker was fouled in the box.
The hosts had a player sent off for the penalty and finished the game with 10 players.
The Black Princesses will be aiming at appearing at their second World Cup final after their debut in Germany 2010.
Africa has two slots available at the World Cup to be staged in Japan, in August this year.
Eight countries including Ghana are involved in the second knockout round which there will be a last round of qualifiers to produce Africa’s two representatives.
