Malaga attacker Julio Baptista has accused Claudio Ranieri of trying to destroy him when he played under the Italian coach at Roma. The Brazilian played under the 60-year-old's stewardship between 2009 and 2011 before eventually returning to Spanish football with Malaga for €2.5 million. Baptista, who is currently sidelined through injury, has spoken of his time at the capital club and delivered a damning report on his former trainer. "Ranieri is the principle reason I failed at Roma. He tried to destroy me," the 30-year-old told Lancenet. "I never played. Aside from stepping onto the field or not, the most important thing for me is respect and honesty between people. "Ranieri was not remotely honest with me or other players, but he was particularly bad with me. I had started well with him, then after an injury he started cutting me out. "Ranieri ignored me, I was not even called up to the squad and was set aside. It’s not the right way to behave." Baptista has made only four appearances this season for Malaga due to injury, finding the net on one occasion.
