The President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi has said that the salary of newly-appointed substantive coach of the Black Stars, Kwasi Appiah will be determined by factors such as his experience, qualification and his ability to bargain and negotiate.
Kwesi Nyantakyi who was speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, revealed that he cannot confirm that Kwasi Appiah will be earning €30,000 as Goran Stevanovic did.
He said “when you are going into a negotiation, there are a lot of factors that will be called into question. The fact that the previous coach got €30,000, does not guarantee the incoming coach the same salary. He may get more or less depending on his qualification, experience, and his ability to bargain and negotiate.”
The FA President added that the failure of Kwasi Appiah will be the failure of the Ghana Football Association. He explained that “It is very important for everyone to rally around Kwasi Appiah so that he succeeds. We are not appointing him to judge him, and dismiss him on the basis that he has not performed, we will all have failed.”
Kwesi Nyantakyi added that the FA is fully committed to ensuring that all the facilities and the needs of Kwasi Appiah are provided so that he delivers on the mandate entrusted him. Mr. Nyantakyi said that very soon the FA would announce a training programme for Kwasi Appiah which would include management skills, and an attachment with a foreign club to boost the coach’s confidence.
“We want him to be on top of the job, we don’t want him to fail or encounter difficulties or problems, so whatever problem that will affect his performance we will take the necessary steps to rectify it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Yeboah, a veteran sports journalist, believes that Ghanaians must be moderate in their expectations of the newly appointed coach. Also speaking on the Joy Super Morning Show, the ace journalist said “We should not for one moment believe that because Kwasi has been appointed, the Black Stars are going to win the Africa Cup of Nations. If we are desirous and sincere about giving Kwasi maximum support, and ensuring he succeeds, why not?”
He further added that with the cooperation of the players there is no reason why Kwasi Appiah should not succeed.
