Kumasi Asante Kotoko has confirmed it grossed more than 240,000 cedis in gate proceeds from Sunday’s Glo Premier League derby against rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The club believes the amount is highest ever to be recorded from the gates in their history. 38,000 tickets were sold as Kotoko won 2-1 to enhance their chances of winning a 22nd league title.
Kotoko are in need of funds to pay a 99,000 euro compensation fee to former coach Hans Dieter Schmidt who was wrongfully dismissed seven years ago. And this development has come as a big relief for the club.
Spokesperson of the club Listowell Yesu Bukarson said " I guess the attendance was so respectable, we recorded the biggest attendance ever, it means a lot to the club and will allow the club settle its judgment"
he told JOY Sports
Kotoko lead the premiership log with 12points, with 6games left to finish the season and unofficially have been declared as run away winners of the Glo premier league.
