The ruling National Democratic Congress executives face an impending legal battle to keep the party’s logo as lawyers for Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings lay ownership of the logo.
Nana Konadu has through her lawyers written to the national executives of the party criticizing them over what they describe as infringement of the party logo which is their client’s intellectual property.
According to Nana Konadu’s lawyer, Stanley Ahorlu the logo is the intellectual property of Nana Konadu because she created it. He added that the right steps will be taken to ensure that the logo is not misused by individuals or group of persons.
Mr. Ahorlu, noted that Mrs. Rawlings “created the logo and subsequently registered it".
He added that registration of the logo gives Mrs. Rawlings exclusive rights to its use which she can then tacitly allow somebody else to use it only under her permission.
Mr Ahorlu added that even if Mrs. Rawlings was employed by the party, she was never commissioned to create the logo. “She was not paid to create it, neither did she create it in the course of her duty as an employee, that is if she was even employed by the party”, Mr. Ahorlu said.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah confirmed to Joy FM that the party had received a letter from Nana Konadu on the issue. He added that the letter has been forwarded to the appropriate quarters in the party for an appropriate response.
