The Dabala police in the Volta Region have arrested a 52-year-old herbalist for sleeping with and having at least one child with his biological daughter.Yao Hateku is said to have impregnated his 25-year-old daughter 13 years ago and has continued to sleep with her ever since. The lady in question has 4 other children; the latest was delivered two weeks ago who the townsfolk believe was conceived in the incestuous relationship. The couple however insists only the first child was conceived in the incestuous relationship, with the four others conceived every time the woman went for a funeral. The two will be arraigned before court today, DSP John Opoku in charge of the Dabala Police disclosed in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Thursday, June 14.Although residents of the town detected the relationship about three years ago, they were too frightened of Yao Hateku’s spiritual powers to report the matter; the chief of the town only came forward after several unnatural deaths were reported in the community, DSP Opoku added.Preliminary investigations indicate the woman at the centre of the saga moved to Dabala from Kumasi to take care of Yao Hateku after her mother passed away three years ago, and according to the townsfolk, the two have been living as man and wife.“Investigations are still ongoing. Whether it was only one child or all the children who were conceived in this relationship, indications are that there has been incest, which is against the country’s laws. After our investigations, the court will decide their fate,” DSP Opoku stated.
