Vice President John Dramani Mahama has visited the Hohoe Municipality as government attempts to find a lasting solution to the skirmishes that erupted last week.
The Vice-President’s visit played a significant role in causing the Gbi Traditional Council to relax their ultimatum on the return of regalia stolen during a raid of Togbe Gabusu palace.
John Dramani Mahama, who is the topmost government official to have a visited the place, called on the people to re-channel their courage and bravery to fight poverty and ensuring a peaceful society.
According to John Mahama, Ghana is a country where freedom of movement is valued hence people should treat the Hohoe incident as an isolated case.
The Vice President also took the opportunity to respond to critics who have questioned the whereabouts of the President and his Vice in the wake of the clashes, saying that there is government machinery at local levels which must be respected.
He noted that with conclusion of Eastern Corridor roads, Hohoe will attract more settlers hence there is the need for the indigenes to develop a big heart to welcome people from all walks of life.
John Mahama has directed the National Disaster Management Organization to assist people who have been affected by the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the Volta regional Minister, Henry Ford Kamel has appealed to residents who fled the clashes to return home as the situation is under control.
In all, close to 6,000 residents were displaced in the clashes which forced a dawn to dusk curfew to be imposed on the town.
