Teachers in 17 basic schools at the Asem Cluster of Schools are boycotting classes in protest against the widespread cattle invasion on their campus.
This reaction comes after the Head teacher of Yaa Asantewa Basic School and two people were hospitalized at the Komfo Anokye teaching Hospital, after being stampeded upon by a rampaging bull.
Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reports that the teachers are unhappy that their school compound for the past three years, has served as a grazing field.
This they complained, disrupted school activities and placed the lives of both students and teachers at risk.
The teachers have therefore resolved that until something concrete is done to ensure their security, they will not return to the classroom.
Mr Owusu Bempah, spokesperson of the 17 head teachers in the cluster of schools complained, saying “we have a student population of over two thousand one hundred with over two hundred teachers. If we sit aloof and look at all these things without concern, automatically something serious may happen.”
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly boss Mr. Samuel Sarpong, has responded positively to the terms of the teachers assuring them that steps were being taken to ensure the security of students and teachers of the affected schools.
“We all know what is happening in Ghana; if you do not press hard action will not be taken. When we see that he (the KMA boss) has just axed the ground to commence the project, we shall go back to class and make up for all the days lost" added Mr Owusu Bempah.
