Fulani herdsmen in the Kwahu area are pleading with the Eastern Regional Minister Victor Smith, to withdraw Military and Police personnel sent to the area in the wake of misunderstanding between them and the surrounding communities over the deaths of some farmers suspected to have been murdered by some herdsmen a month ago.
Nkawkaw Zongo Chief Alhaji Mohammed Osumanu presented a petition to Samuel Asamoah, District Chief Executive of Kwahu East.
The petition which was signed by over thirty opinion leaders pleaded with the DCE to intervene and advice the Regional Security Council to withdraw the security personnel with promise of ensuring that peace prevails in the communities they live in.
Alhaji Mohammed Osumanu also promised in his petition to take full responsibility of further misunderstanding which may arise between famers and the herdsmen in the Kwahu area.
The herdsmen also promised to assist the police to arrest anyone who flouts laid down procedures aimed at ensuring peaceful coexistence between famers and herdsmen in the Kwahu area.
The heavy presence of security personnel has made it difficult for the herdsmen to go close their their cattle, hence their resolve to do all it takes to ensure peace prevailed.
The petition is likely to feature prominently in the next REGSEC meeting where security capos will determine the time frame for withdrawal of the security personnel if possible.
REGSEC will also consider the content of the bond signed by the herdsmen and the Muslim leaders.
Indigenes in the Kwahu East, Kwahu West and Kwahu North have lauded the efforts of the Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Victor Smith for his bold steps which have brought peace between the herdsmen and the farming communities and urged other Regional Ministers not to relent on their efforts to protect the citizenry from suck attacks.
