Work on the proposed new stadium at Cape Coast would start immediately, Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Education, Science and Sports, said on Monday.
He was speaking to members of the media after inspecting the progress of work at the Sekondi Sports Stadium Complex at Essipong and training pitches for the CAN 2008 at Sekondi.
Professor Fobih said the President had directed that work on the stadium should start immediately and he would ensure that this was done.
He said five stadiums would be constructed in other regions.
Professor Fobih said he was happy about the progress of work at the training pitches at the Sekondi Sports Stadium Complex, Railway Park, Gyandu Park and Fijai School Park.
He commended the contractors working on the pitches for keeping their promise to speed up work.
Professor Fobih cautioned the Engineering and Logistical Service, which was working on the pitch at Essipong that the contract could be terminated if he did not work round the clock to meet the deadline.
He said the contractor had a lot of work to do before the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) inspects the facilities by the middle of October.
Earlier, Professor Fobih had paid a courtesy call on Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, at his office in Sekondi.
