A policeman on escort duty at Tarkwa in the Western Region has been shot and killed by armed robbers on Sunday.
The deceased, Lance Corporal Duku Nicolas, with the Tarkwa Division was providing escort services to an Indian businessman at Bogoso when the robbers accosted them late Sunday.
The incident is the latest in a wave of attacks recorded in one week in some parts of the country.
Last week two people were killed in four separate robbery attacks at Weija, in the Ga South Municipal district of the Greater Accra Region.
After shooting the police escort, the robbers took away GHS 900, 000 from the Indian businessman identified as Rajinder Singh.
Joy News sources say the robbers, numbering four, wore masks and used a Nissan rogue vehicle with registration number GE 411- 16 for their operation.
The vehicle was later abandoned at the outskirts of Oppong Valley, a suburb of Tarkwa.
The Tarkwa Divisional and Prestea police teams have since been on the hunt for the four.
More soon.
