The withdrawal of the American Peace Corps volunteers from the Upper West region has prompted a series of meeting by the Upper West Regional Security Council.
Last Saturday, a Peace Corps volunteer stabbed an alleged armed robber who tried robbing him and another colleague of their valuables in the wee hours of the day.
The incident led to the withdrawal of all American Peace Corps volunteers the region, over safety concerns. The American Embassy which instructed the pull-out of the volunteers also warned its nationals in the country to stay away from the Upper West region.
The Regional Minister, Amin Amidu Sulemani addressed a news conference Friday after meeting with security capos in the Region, where he described the incident as an isolated case.
According to him, the unfortunate incident notwithstanding, the region is the most peaceful and safest as compared to the nine other regions.
The Regional Minister assured that there is no need to press the panic button yet.
He said the incident is currently under investigation and every effort will be made to ensure that the issue is properly dealt with adding that, security patrols in the region would be intensified.
‘‘The Security Agencies will continue to do all they can to ensure that every life in the region is well protected,’’ the Regional Minister added.
