The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress has directed all interest groups and lobbyists canvassing for various persons to be named vice president, to put an immediate stop to it.
It has also directed these groups stop issuing public statements. In a statement issued in Accra Friday, NDC's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia said the development is inconsistent with the national state of mourning declared by the president and the mood of the nation.
The NDC maintained that the decision remains the sole prerogative of President Mahama and he must be given the space to make the nomination.
Meanwhile the NDC says the essence of Thursday’s National Executive Committee meeting was to respond to the crisis that has befallen the nation and the party.
Mr. Asiedu-Nketia said it was important for the NDC to put its house in order in accordance with Article 50 of its constitution which mandates NEC to exercise its residual powers and provide clear leadership in such circumstances.
