Parliament is set to vet President John Mahama’s nominee for the position of Vice-President, Central Bank Governor Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.House Speaker Joyce Bamford-Addo formally informed Parliament of the president’s nomination and referred the matter to the Appointments Committee of Parliament, reported Joy News’ Sammy Darko. It is unclear whether the vetting would be held in camera or it would be a public hearing. The Standing Orders of Parliament require the vetting of nominees to be held publicly. This is the first time, however, that a Vice-President-designate will be vetted by the House. This came about as a result of the ascension to the presidency of then vice-president John Mahama following the sudden death of President John Atta Mills.Acting in accordance with the constitution, Mr Mahama nominated Mr Amissah-Arthur for Parliamentary approval.
