Outspoken politician, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah says the nomination of Paa Kwesi Amissah- Arthur as Vice President is a plus for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Sekou noted Amissah-Arthur’s candidature adds some touch of class and technocracy to the NDC ticket which according to him would inure to the benefit of the ruling party ahead of the December polls. The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana was on Monday approved as Vice President by consensus in Parliament, after a rigorous vetting section by the Appointments Committee. This followed his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama after the sudden demise of the late President John Atta Mills on Tuesday 24th July, 2012. However, some Regional Chairmen of the NDC are lobbying for Mr. Amissah-Arthur to be made the running mate to President Mahama who is expected to be endorsed as flag-bearer of the party on September 1st. The Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Joseph Ade Coker and Central Regional Chairman Adu Yeboah are spearheading the crusade to have Vice President Amissah-Arthur endorsed as the running mate of the party. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Sekou Nkrumah said he would be very surprised if the NDC does not name the Vice President a running mate. He indicated that it would be politically unwise for President Mahama to end the four year tenure with Vice President Amissah-Arthur and then name another person as his running mate for the December elections. Sekou Nkrumah observed that given his [Amissah-Arthur] expertise and experience as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, he believes Amissah-Arthur would complement the President perfectly to deliver the Better Ghana Agenda. Notwithstanding, the maverick politician who has pledged his allegiance to the opposition New Patriotic Party'y (NPP) candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said, that the NPP ticket is the formidable team to beat. He indicated that even though the Mahama/Amissah–Arthur ticket is more attractive than the Mills/Mahama ticket, the NPP ticket made up of Nana/Bawumia would beat them hands down. Sekou Nkrumah urged Ghanaians to vote for the NPP; the only party he says will redeem them from the shackles of poverty.
