The New Patriotic Party aspiring Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo Victor Okaikoi is now a full Ghanaian.
This was after he relinquished his US citizenship today after going through the required formalities at the US Embassy Thursday.
His renunciation of his dual nationality is in line with 94(2)(A) of the 1992 Constitution which requires all public office holders to be fully Ghanaian.
The aspiring MP confirmed this to Myjoyonline.com in an interview.
The NPP aspiring Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo is guided by the unfortunate incident of his colleague MP for Bawku Central Adamu Dramani who is currently serving a two-year jail term after he was found guilty of being a UK citizen at the time he contested and won the 2008 elections.
He was convicted for false declaration of office, perjury and deceiving a public officer.
Okaikoi acquired the US Citizenship shortly after he escaped from the Usher Fort Prison in 1979 where he was confined after being accused by the erstwhile AFRC military government of an attempted coup.
He won the NPP primaries and will be attempting to wrest the seat from the ruling NDC on whose ticket Nii Lantey Vanderpuye hopes to retain the seat for.
