President John Mahama has outdoored his running mate Papa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur for the 2012 General Elections with an emphatic declaration that “NDC is ready for a gargantuan 2012 victory.”
He said the ruling party “shall win another term to lead this nation to prosperity and a dignified life.”
The buoyant ceremony saw party bigwigs gather in an electric atmosphere charged by vociferous party supporters who chanted slogans including the famous MTN tagline ‘Ide bii k3k3.’
President Mahama told the crowd he only a few years ago went through the same outdooring ceremony when he was nominated by the late President John Mills.
Little did he know that four years later he will become the president and also nominate another person as vice presidential aspirant.
But the death of the late president meant the party must go through the whole process again.
According to President John Mahama, the late president paid the ultimate price to unite and rejuvenate the NDC for victory in 2012 and hoped his new nominee will serve with diligence as he Mahama did under President Mills.
Papa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur's nomination and subsequent endorsement as vice presidential aspirant was free from the controversy and acrimony which characterized his (Mahama) nomination four years ago.
The president told the party supporters the Council of Elders of the NDC unanimously endorsed his choice of Amissah-Arthur, with the National Executive Council of the party doing same overwhelmingly.
He said with the endorsement and subsequent outdooring of Papa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, the party’s ticket is complete and ready for battle.
“Today is his [Papa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur’s] day”, the president said as he invited the nominee together with his wife onto the podium.
The cheers and slogans were deafening.
