Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee Mark Assibey-Yeboah is unimpressed with Bolgatanga Central MP Isaac Adongo’s behavior towards the Committee as it begins a probe into the recent banks collapse.

He said Mr Adongo’s claim that he did not have the requisite documents needed for Wednesday’s in-camera sitting is incorrect.

Speaking to Evans Mensah on Joy FM’s Top Story, Dr Assibey-Yeboah said the Boulders report, was available and all members of the Committee were to use that for Wednesday’s sitting.

“The full Boulder’s and KPMG reports are available on Whatsapp,” the Chairman said adding that none of the Minority members –about eight of them – who were on the Committee complained.

If even that was insufficient, the New Juaben South MP believes Mr Adongo’s decision to walk out of the sitting was not the solution.

He said had the members reserved the right to request for more information during the sitting and the documents would have been made available but walking out could not have been an option.

In the end, however, the Chairman said “They brought us the full KPMG and Boulder’s report as a matter of fact even this afternoon Pricewater House Coopers has submitted full reports on Capital Bank receivership and UT Bank receivership.”

All Members on the Committee according to Dr Assibey-Yeboah seemed satisfied with the process and for the Minority MP to say all the work put in by the Committee was rubber stamping is disappointing.

“He walked out in the first five minutes of the sitting and we engaged the Bank of Ghana for over three hours. I think he had formed his opinion before coming to the meeting, the Chairman added.

But Mr Adongo finds the explanation surprising.

He is shocked that the Chairman is satisfied and is asking for documents on Whatsapp to be used for an important meeting as one on the banks collapse.

“Since when did parliamentarians get served with social media documents. Members of Parliament are going to meet over the collapse of seven banks, over 6000 people are losing their jobs…we are talking about 8 billion cedis of public funds being spent on this and you tell me that I was served on social media,” he queried astonished at the Chairman’s response.

He said although he had seen the KPMG report on the said platform, there was no way he would have given it any credence because the company had warned against its circulation.

A document like that, for him, cannot be used in a serious meeting for any accurate outcome.

“Are the contracts and the terms of reference for KPMG and Boulder’s advisors for the work they did also on social media,” he questioned.

He described the explanation given by Dr Assibey-Yeboah as “joke”, adding that “I can understand all the games and damage control but I am not forcing anybody who was willing to continue with the meeting

“But in my view and as an individual, I came to the position that I was not equipped enough to deliver to the people of Ghana the way I would have and on the basis of my conscience I walked out of that meeting. And for anyone to tell me that I was served on social media is an apology to Parliament.”

Mr Adongo said he is not bothered to be the only person speaking against the development, "we have our own conscience, and if they feel they are comfortable with those documents, why should I fault them."
