Former IBF bantamweight world champion Joseph King Kong Agbeko will honour his much awaited International Boxing Organisation (IBO) World Bantamweight Title bout in his native Ghana in February against Colombian Luis Melendes.
This comes as welcome news for home fans who will see him in action for the first time in six years.
The bout will be the maiden promotion put together by Agbeko’s newly-established outfit Fresh King Entertainment rolls out its maiden promotions on February 22.
With both world class boxers boasting of recording not less than 20 knockouts each CEO and Promoter of Fresh King Entertainment Ebenezer Noye is excited at the opportunity to sell a potential cracker of world title fight of this quality to Ghanaians and the world since 1988.
"Ghanaian have been deprived of big world title fights for 24 years and we pride ourselves in rekindling an unmatched enthusiasm for boxing in the country and on the continent," he said.
Agbeko who has a fight record of 28 wins and four losses face a tough customer in Luis Melendes who has more fight experience with 34 wins in 43 fights. The Ghanaian, was inactive in 2012 after failing to snatch the IBF and WBC silver bantamweight titles from Mexican Abner Mares in California in December 2011.
According to Promoter Eben Noye, the two boxers have enough quality to thrill the expected 40,000 crowd at the Accra Stadium and the millions who will be watching the world over.
"Agbeko and Melendes are considered bantamweight greats and it's a rare privilege to watch the two fight live in Accra, Ghana and Fresh King Entertainment is working hard to ensure a good show is delivered on 22 February" he said.
Exciting young prospects Emmanuel 'The Game Boy' Tagoe and George 'The Red Tiger' Ashie who sold a big local grudge fight at the same venue some months back are also on the bill.
"Ghana and African boxing has so much to look forward to as Fresh King entertainment prepares to deliver one of the most exciting boxing promotions of our time," Mr Noye added.
