By-elections will be held to fill vacant seats in the Akatsi South and Buem constituencies on 5th and 26th February, 2013, respectively, the Electoral Elecotral Commission announced on Thursday.
The Akatsi South seat became vacant following the elevation the MP, Mr. Doe Adjaho to the position of Speaker of Parliament, while that of Buem constituency is also vacant due to the death of Mr. Henry Ford Kamel who was also the Volta Regional Minister on Christmas Day.
Separate statements signed by Deputy EC Chairman in charge of Operations, Mr Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, said the move is in agreement with Article 112(5) of the Constitution as amended by section 3 of Act 527.
Those interested in contesting the by-elections in the two constituencies, will be required to pay filing fees of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1000.00).
According to statement, “The Commission will take nominations for the said by-election on Monday 21stand Tuesday 22ndJanuary, 2013, at the district office of the Commission at Akatsi from 8:00am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:00pm. Nomination forms may be obtained from the district office of the Commission at Akatsi or at the Regional office of the Commission at Ho”.
For the Buem constituency, “The Commission will take nominations for the said by-election on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th January, 2013, at the district office of the Commission at Jasikan from 8:00am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:00pm. Nomination forms may be obtained from the district office of the Commission at Jasikan or at the Regional office of the Commission at Ho”.
The statements urged interested individuals and political parties to take note and act accordingly.
