Alhaji Abdul Rahman Issakah of the Democratic Freedom Party, DFP, is pointing accusing fingers at the opposition National Democratic Congress over alleged attempts to kill veteran politician Dr. Obed Asamoah.
Obed Asamoah is alleged to have received several death threats, and Rahman Issakah thinks Asamoah’s former party members, who have so far remained silent over the allegations, know a lot about the attempts on his life.
Obed Asamoah was for a long time, the NDC’s chairman before quitting the party to help form the DFP a year ago.
Alhaji Abdul Rahman Issakah, who is chairman of the DFP, told Joy News that the NDC’s silence makes them prime suspects.
“There has been a number of threats on his life. Now the leadership of the NDC hasn’t debunked the threats and they haven’t distanced themselves from the threats issued by some of their members. If it were you, what would you think of? He was the chairman of the party. Those he brought onto the political platform are living in more luxurious mansions and he hasn’t complained but the people that he has helped to establish them in the political arena are sitting by as if they are not concerned …as if they wish he was not there.”
But NDC Propaganda Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, debunked the assertion as a cock and bull story fit only for a contemptuous glance.
He told Joy News that if the NDC was silent on the matter, it was a matter of policy not to engage any inconsequential fronts in any fruitless debate to do any body’s bidding.
“You had a number of these cock and bull stories coming up. It has always emanated from, …what you call big fraternity, which is basically the NPP fraternity and sometimes working in concert with their friends in the media or sometimes their friends like the DFP. Not too long ago you heard another funny, absolutely outrageous story relating to NDC wanting to Kill Haruna Iddrisu. You and I today know, weeks have passed and clearly that story has no basis, the people who concocted it have basically run into caves…”
Fiifi Kwetey said the NDC as a party would not be deceived into losing focus on what the key issues for the nation are, to resort to engage in the diversionary antics the DFP has been assigned to play, asserting that it is interesting what occasions the DFP chooses to throw issues into the public domain; when the NPP is in trouble, as currently it does from the corrupt revelations emanating from the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament’s hearing of the malfeasance in public administration.
