The Auditor-General Mr. Edward Doe Agyeman says his department will soon start its own audit of the School Feeding Programme.
His statement comes almost two years after an audit by pricewaterhousecoopers which cited massive corruption in the implementation of the programme.
A Deputy Local Gov’t Minister Mr. Maxwel Kofi Gyima says the government will not expand the programme until the inconsistencies identified are dealt with.
But Mr Doe Agyeman says he will not work with the report because pricewaterhousecoopers did not seek authorisation from him to conduct the audit.
That, he said is a violation of the country’s laws governing auditing of public accounts.
“The constitution says it is only the A-G who can audit public accounts or any fund made available to the government of Ghana whether a loan or grant or what ever.
So if anybody else audits the account without the authority or knowledge of the AG the is a violation of the constitution”, he stated.
Mr. Doe Agyeman said he did not have a copy of the report because he was not given one.
He stressed he had the mandate to audit public account and he would do so at the appropriate time.
According to him the audit by the pricewaterhousecoopers was commissioned by the Netherlands government which partly funds the programme.
He however said he did not know the rationale for commissioning the audit.
