The police have forwarded the case docket of the five people accused of killing hunchbacks at Bibiani in the Western Region to the Attorney General for advice.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Samson Anane-Appiah, Bibiani District Police Commander, told the Times that the five suspects had been provisionally charged with murder and remanded into prison custody in Takoradi.
They are Nuhu Billa, also known as 'Apana', 50, Abdul Rahman Mohammed alias 'Taller', 45, Alidu Musah, alias Bon, 44, Harnidu Karim, 36 and Haruna, 32.
The five are being held in connection with the killing of a 65-year-old hunchback, Yakubu Busanga, whose hump was removed for rituals.
On July 22, Busanga was abducted and his body was found three days later concealed in a sack at a refuse dump at Bibiani.
After killing Busanga, the five allegedly kidnapped a 14-year-old boy who was sleeping with him when he was abducted, apparently to cover up any evidence of their action.
However, the boy was rescued by the police on July 30, at Otaakrom village near Bibiani where he was with some people believed to be members of the syndicate of hunchback killers.
Before Busanga's killing, the police were investigating three similar cases.
