Access Bank Plc has appointed Yomi Akapo, an astute banker with over 17 years experience as the Country Managing Director for its Ghana subsidiary with effect from June 11, 2010.
A statement by the bank said the appointment is in line with its ongoing initiative to strengthen its global operation and bring forth value to stakeholders. With this appointment, Yomi Akapo succeeds Dan Akaba, who had served as Country Managing Director for Access Bank Ghana Ltd.
Prior to his appointment, Akapo had served as the pioneer Managing Director/CEO of Access Bank Gambia Ltd. Under his leadership, the Bank became one of the top 4 commercial banks by balance sheet size in the country in less than 3 years of operations.
Mr. Akapo is an experienced Corporate and Commercial banker with successful track record in Real Estate, Telecommunications, Oil and Gas Multinationals, Manufacturing and Aviation sectors. His expertise is expected to support the growth of the Ghanaian market and enhance capacity development in the country.
Mr. Akapo on his appointment said “Ghana is an important market to the Access Bank Group. I look forward to working in this enabling environment as my preliminary interactions with stakeholders give me firm confidence in the potential of the budding partnership between Access Bank Plc and the Ghanaian economy and its citizens”.
