Counsel for the Petitioners Philip Addison has accused the Electoral Commission (E.C) boss of manipulating a polling station register that has caused controversy in court on Monday.
He made this accusation during Day 44 of the hearing of a petition at the Supreme Court seeking to overturn results of December 2012 presidential election which declared John Mahama winner.
The witness for Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan had earlier on cast doubts about the authenticity of the register which Philip Addison had sought to depend on as evidence of double registration.
The reason for the E.C 's doubt was because the arrangement of pictures in the Petitioners' register was different from the original arrangement of pictures in the EC's own register.
This doubt over its authenticity stalled the Petitioners cross-examination of the witness Dr. Afari-Gyan and forced the court to recess before mid-day.
But in a dramatic turn, the Petitioners after recess, continued their cross-examination by accusing the E.C of rather manipulating the register.
Addison had explained, that the time of the E.C's printing of the register served to manipulate the voters register.
Addison found out that the controversy over the difference in arrangement of the pictures in the two registers arose because whiles the Petitioners printed their register on 21st November 2012- before the election- the second Respondent printed theirs on 9th July 2013, after the election.
He said the E.C printed the register only last week while they printed their last year. The different date of printing may have affected the arrangement of the pictures.
But Dr. Afari-Gyan in turn, rejected this manipulation claim saying if the register was manipulated, it would have contained more or less number of voters.
But as it stood, both registers - whether E.C’s or the Petitioners - had a total of 1074. He said this fact was proof that no such manipulation took place.
The Petitioners led by their counsel Philip Addison sought to prove that the E.C's register contained multiple registrations - an irregularity used for massive fraud in the 2012 Presidential Elections.
