Guinea have followed up their verbal interest in hosting either the 2019 or 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with an official bid submitted to the Confederation Of African Football on Thursday the country’s football officials have announced in Conakry.
A four-man delegation including minister of sports Sanoussy Bantama Sow and FA chairman Salifou Camara were said to have travelled to the Cairo headquarters of CAF to deliver documents to show how serious they are to host the continent’s biggest football fiesta.
Documents
The documents submitted by the Guinean officials included motivations and guarantees from the government to host either of the tournaments.
-We believe it is time that the Africa Cup of Nations comes to our country, Guinea,” Camara said in a statement.
-We are hopeful this will be a reality and it will contribute to the development of infrastructure and grassroots football.
Historic
If finally given the nod, it will be an historic moment for Guinea that has never won or hosted the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Syli National’s best performance in the showpiece event in Africa was in Ethiopia in 1976, when they finished as runners-up against winners Morocco.
