The people of Afife, a farming in the Ketu District, can now heave a sigh of relief as a potable water facility they have pressing for, for years, will become operational this year. The 22,000 US dollar water project to serve the about 12,000 inhabitants of the community, is due for completion in March this year.It is being funded by Mr Jerry Colangelo, an American citizen through a Ghanaian NGO, "Adopt a Village Foundation" with the Liberty Assemblies of God Church at Afife being the facilitators. The facility constitutes a major intervention for the communities, which are located along the valley of the Afife Irrigation Project.Currently the people in the area collect water from pools in the valley as a result of which the area is considered a guinea worm endemic zone.Major components of the water project including distribution lines, two 8,000 gallons capacity overhead tanks, a switch room and a borehole from which the water would be tapped are almost complete. This came to light when Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, joined the congregations of the facilitating church at a service at Afife on Sunday.
The Minister also visited and worshipped with the Pentecost and Global Evangelical churches at Afife.
Mr Dzamesi was taken round to see progress of work on the water project by Reverend Emmanuel Fiagbedzi, Head Pastor of the Liberty Assemblies of God Church, which solicited for the project on behalf of the communities.
Mr Dzamesi asked the congregations to lend support to government by retaining it in power to continue it good works.
Reverend Fiagbedzi also showed the Minister a 21-room two-storey building classroom block at the foundation level, being undertaken by the Church to house its basic school and a proposed second-cycle school.Source: GNA
