Embattled New Patriotic Party Chairman aspirant, Paul Afoko, has been given the green light to campaign, as the vetting committee which ordered an investigation into allegations he was arrested in the United Kingdom awaits details of the report.
The party has fixed April 12 for its national delegates congress to elect national officers.
Mr. Afoko’s vetting was stalled following a petition submitted to the committee that claimed he was arrested in the United Kingdom for fraud.
He has denied the allegations.
NPP’s director of Elections Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah told Joy News the suspension placed on the balloting for the chairmanship position still holds.
"Mr Afoko is free to campaign. This does not stall him up in anyway. It is just a matter of suspending his vetting but he has indeed appeared before us.
"He is free to go. And in fairness to him further we have decided that the position for the chairmanship will be without balloting," he said.
Meanwhile, the party’s National Elections Committee has directed the re – run of elections for executive positions in six constituencies. The committee says laid down procedures and rules were not followed when the elections were held earlier this year.
Catherine Afeku, a member of the party’s election committee named the constituencies as Okaikoi South, Okaikoi North, Krowor, Juabeng, Manhyia North and Kumawu.
