International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight champion, Joseph Agbeko, has been enstooled, as a warrior chief, in the Volta Region, in recognition of his exploits in the sport.The 30-year old boxer, has been accorded the stool name, Togbe Kaletor I, meaning ‘Brave Warrior’, for raising high the flag of the people of the Volta Region in sporting circles.Dr Bernard Glover, the Volta Regional representative on the Council of State conferred the honour on Agbeko, at a well attended ceremony, held on Sunday at Sogakope.The enstoolment was performed by Togbe Adzove II, Awa dada of the Agave Traditional Area and assisted by Togbe Akaba VII of Anyako, Togbe Latordufe I of Agave and Togbe Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional area.Agbeko, who is from Aflao, defeated Colombian Yohnny Perez through a unanimous decision to reclaim the IBF Bantamweight title a fortnight ago in the United States; a feat Dr Glover insists has brought a lot of honour to the people of the Volta Region.“Agbeko is a child of our land and no matter where in the region that he hails from, he deserved to be honoured.”He described the boxer as a shining example to the youth, having risen from a humble beginning to a ‘theatre of fame'.Togbe Fiti commended Agbeko on his achievement and urged him to do more to attain greater heights.Kobby Mensah Woyome, Member of Parliament for South Tongu also lauded the IBF champions for his resilience and perseverance, and cautioned him against complacency and pride in his endeavours.“You have raised high the flag of Volta region and Ghana as a whole.”Agbeko, dressed in traditional regalia, presented his title to the chiefs and thanked all for the honour bestowed on him.Source: GNA
