The Association of Ghana Industries says it will push for gradual increases in utility tariffs as it re-engages the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission over its concerns. Government last Friday asked the PURC to re-engage labour and industry players over a possible review of the tariffs to ease the burden on consumers. AGI President Nana Owusu Afari tells Joy Business a gradual increase would ensure that industries do not collapse. “Nobody is saying that they shouldn’t increase tarrifs; that is not the position of AGI or the position of labour. "What we are saying is that the hikes were too much. It will kill everything. Increases should be gradual and over time so that we can adjust and also meet the competition in the global marketplace.” He said industries are battling with very high interest rates which is making it difficult for businesses to cope.
